Paul Pogba's four-year ban officially reduced after appeal | OneFootball

The Court of Arbitration for Sport have confirmed that Paul Pogba’s four-year ban for doping offences has been reduced.

The Juventus midfielder was served the lengthy suspension in February this year by the Italian National Anti-Doping Agency in addition to a fine of €5,000 for testing positive for ‘non-endogenous testosterone metabolites’.

However, Pogba appealed the decision to CAS, who have now announced that his ban has been reduced to 18 months, backdated to September 11, 2023.

As a result, the Frenchman has been cleared to begin training in the new year and can return to competitive action in mid-March, while his fine has also been cancelled.

In a statement, CAS revealed that their reasons for the decision were due to a belief that Pogba’s positive test was ‘not intentional and the result of erroneously taking a supplement supplied to him by a medical doctor in Florida after he was given assurances about the doctor’.

However, due to Pogba’s responsibilities as a player, the panel determined that he was not completely blameless and although his ban was reduced, he is required to serve a spell on the sidelines as punishment.

According to reports in Italy, Juventus are in talks with the player’s camp regarding a contract termination that would allow him to start afresh elsewhere.
