The midweek defeat to Napoli has massively harmed AC Milan’s chances of any Scudetto success, and Carlo Pellegatti has taken stock of the situation.

An eight-point gap before Tuesday’s clash was bad enough, and some had already begun to lose faith in the squad’s ability to turn around their fortunes. However, there are now 11 points separating the sides, and it is a stark reminder of Milan’s summer decisions.

Perhaps, it could have been the other way around, given Conte himself had wanted the job, but with the management not seeing him as the right fit, a decision was made away from him. A Partenopei Scudetto win would, therefore, rub salt in the wounds.

However, that is not the only pressing issue. Looking away from the table, the Rossoneri find themselves in a challenging position with Rafael Leao, who has allowed his entourage to begin looking for a January exit.

Today, Pellegatti looked at the present situation at the Diavolo, and offered his thoughts which have been relayed by Milan News.

“It is on these occasions, dear friends, I never take off my scarf, in fact, I put it on even tighter. However, 11 points from the top are a boulder, and above all Milan risk, if they are not already, being sucked into the middle of the table.

“A defeat that began on Friday, continued at Milanello with Gabbia’s injury, continued again with Pulisic’s flu, and some will say, surely continued tonight with Leao’s exclusion. Another divisive issue, among the many things that now divide the fans.

“In one thing they are not divided, many of course, the regret of not having had Antonio Conte, who at this historic moment could have been the shock. And that, among others, is the big accusation they make against management and ownership,” he stated.

“As far as Fonseca is concerned, I cannot say that he fielded a generous team. A formation that struggled, but which obviously did not have the quality to counter Napoli. We’ll see if there are any decisions, if and what happens now.

“The important thing is that Milan, who have a 30 per cent defeat rate in 10 games, 3 defeats in fact, let’s hope that now that Milan will be able to mend the situation a little, to find their players, starting with the game in Monza, but undoubtedly on 29 October, 11 points from the summit, they did not expect it.

“We had already had a foretaste of a complicated season, and the confirmation is that a very complicated season…”
