Peter Schmeichel backs struggling Man United striker Rasmus Hojlund to come good soon

Rasmus Hojlund’s form is the biggest headache currently for Ruben Amorim with Manchester United struggling in front of goal.
The Dane has a mere three Premier League goals all season and his all-round play has been very disappointing, so much so that the head coach wants him gone.
But the embattled star still has an ardent supporter in fellow Dane and United legend Peter Schmeichel who has claimed that his compatriot has the mental strength to get through this difficult phase.
The former goalkeeper admitted that the 22-year-old is bereft of confidence, which explains the recent dismal displays.
“The boy is very, very talented,” Schmeichel told PA news agency (via Yahoo). “He’s like every other player in that squad – of course short of confidence. Everyone. This is the big thing. Once you don’t win games, the confidence levels drop so it’s been a tough one.
“I mean, he will come through it. He’s so strong mentally. He will come through it. He’s got really, really good support from his family as well and I know what he can do.
“Hopefully there’s a bit of success left in this team, and you bring that into your break, you come back in a different frame of mind, new season.”
Even Amorim has pointed to the lack of service at times and the Treble winner agreed with this statement. Also, dumping the entire responsibility of goals on a youngster is not the way to go.
“He’s a number nine. Number nines need service. It’s not always been the case in this team. The service has not been great, but it’s been everyone so just singling out a player I think is wrong. Football is a team game, and you win and lose as a team. I know it’s cliches and all that, but that is the truth.
“When you have an off day – which when playing for Man United you shouldn’t really have too many of them – the rest of the team should be in such confident mood that they will carry you through.
“But this is not happening for anyone in this squad, and it’s just one of them. There’s too many things, too many changes in a short period of time.
“The good thing is that we still have the Europa League, so we can still dream about Champions League and if that happens it’s all going to change in the summer, and this is where we pin our hopes now.”
It was always a risk for the club to rely only on Hojlund instead of acquiring an elite striker to support him. Maybe that is what the club will finally do in the summer.
But Liam Delap seems the club’s top priority and having two youngsters might not be the way to go and INEOS could try and move the Denmark international on.
Talks of a move back to Italy including swap deal options are all on the table. The co-owners will now take the final call based on discussions with the head coach.
