Tottenham Hotspur failed to get much-needed respite as they drew 2-2 with Wolverhampton Wanderers yesterday.
To make matters worse, Tottenham suffered another massive injury blow. Left-back Destiny Udogie went down clutching his leg with no one around him and was replaced by Sergio Reguilon.
Udogie will be a massive miss if the injury is worse than expected, especially with the club’s current issues.
Cristian Romero, Micky Van de Ven, Guglielmo Vicario and Ben Davies are all injured. Manager Ange Postecoglou hopes Udogie’s injury is not too serious.
Postecoglou said (via the club’s official website): “I think it was a hamstring. We have been relying on a core group of players because we just couldn’t rotate.
“At some point, it was going to catch up with us. Unfortunately, it caught up with Destiny.”
Spurs had won only once in their previous five games and had lost successive matches to Liverpool and Nottingham Forest.
Postecoglou desperately needed a victory in this clash with the pressure piling, but his team failed to deliver.
Despite trailing early on, Rodrigo Bentancur brought Spurs back into the game, heading in a corner to equalise.
Spurs took the initiative and won a soft penalty, but Heung-min Son missed the spot-kick. Despite the miss, it did not take long before Brennan Johnson gave Tottenham the lead.
However, a late goal from Jorgen Strand Larsen brought the visitors level, leaving Postecoglou frustrated.
Even though he has been sidelined for most of the season, Postecoglou needs to keep Reguilon and give him a chance to prove his mettle.
The Spaniard did not put a foot wrong versus Wolves, winning both his duels while playing one key pass.
Postecoglou might be tempted to stick Djed Spence at left back when he returns from suspension, but having a natural left-footer there gives Tottenham more balance.
Reguilon had a remarkable second half of the season on loan at Brentford last term. He can be useful for Tottenham in the coming months.
