The Premier League have confirmed 7PM (UK) as the new deadline for the summer transfer window – four hours ahead of the previous 11PM UK slot.
Manchester City are reportedly eyeing four to five signings after a sub-standard 2024/2025 campaign that saw Pep Guardiola’s side surrender their Premier League crown to Liverpool and crash out of the UEFA Champions League at the Round of 16 stage to Real Madrid.
Kevin De Bruyne also played his final game in a Manchester City on Sunday against Fulham after the 33-year-old was given an emotional send-off at the Etihad Stadium in midweek as the Blues saw off Bournemouth in the midfielder’s final home appearance for the club.
After withdrawing interest in Bayer Leverkusen’s Florian Wirtz – who was widely reported to be leading City’s shortlist of candidates to replace De Bruyne – the 2023 treble winners are assessing alternatives whilst working on deals for Morgan Gibbs-White and Tijjani Reijnders.
City are also looking to bolster their prospects at full-back and with Kyle Walker set to leave the club when he returns from a loan at AC Milan, with Newcastle United’s Tino Livramento the leading target at right-back.
Ederson and Stefan Ortega Moreno could both leave in the summer, which could see incoming sporting director Hugo Viana prioritise a new signing in goal amidst uncertainty over Manchester City’s options between the sticks for the 2025/2026 campaign.
In a statement released by the Premier League concerning the upcoming transfer window, it was confirmed, “Premier League clubs have agreed the dates for the Summer 2025 Transfer Window.
“The window will open early, between Sunday 1 June and Tuesday 10 June at 19:00 BST, due to an exceptional registration period relating to the FIFA Club World Cup.
“It will then reopen on Monday 16 June and close on Monday 1 September at 19:00 BST.”
MailSport previously reported concerns at several Premier League clubs informed of the change in the build-up to the announcement. The earlier deadline in England will allow clubs in other leagues across Europe the leverage to deal whilst clubs in the Premier League could have their hands tied.
Further, there is an acceptance that every hour matters on the final day of transfer window as clubs usually leave it till the final days of the window to see how the sands may shift and clubs may alter their respective stances and asking prices for players.
The Premier League have also allowed Manchester City and Chelsea – the Premier League’s representatives at the FIFA Club World Cup in the United States – the chance to sign and register new players in a new-found transfer window between June 1-10, before the tournament is held between mid June and mid July.
