Looking at these Premier League fixtures this round of matches.
Seeing the other games from a Newcastle United perspective.
Eddie Howe and his players facing Manchester City away on Saturday afternoon, with a 3pm kick-off.
As a Newcastle United fan though, have a look at this weekend’s other Premier League fixtures and have a think about what you’d like to happen and what is likely in terms of results.
(Friday night saw the first PL game of the weekend played out, it ending Brighton 3 Chelsea 0.)
Saturday 15 February
Leicester v Arsenal (12.30pm)
Villa v Ipswich (3pm)
Fulham v Forest (3pm)
Man City v Newcastle (3pm)
Southampton v Bournemouth (3pm)
West Ham v Brentford (3pm)
Palace v Everton (5.30pm)
Sunday 16 February
Liverpool v Wolves (2pm)
Tottenham v Man U (4.30pm)
This is how the table looks on Saturday morning (15 February 2025) before the remaining nine Premier League fixtures of this weekend are played:
My Conclusions
Leicester v Arsenal – Leicester won 2-1 away at Tottenham two PL matches ago but have lost the other eight of the last nine. Arsenal are top of the PL form table over the last six PL games and unbeaten in 14 since losing at St James’ Park 1-0 in November. Even though Arteta has lost his last three cup matches to Man U and Newcastle (x2!), difficult to see Leicester getting anything today, Here’s hoping they surprise us.
Villa v Ipswich – Villa aren’t any great shakes and have won only two of their last seven PL matches. Lucky to get a 1-1 draw at home to West Ham in their last Villa Park PL outing and then losing 2-0 at Wolves. However, despite Ipswich easily defeating Chelsea 2-0 six PL games ago and then drawing at Fulham, they have then lost the next four and last time managed to lose to Southampton having led 1-0. Villa are the most likely winners but if Ipswich can find one of their rare decent days, they could get something.
Fulham v Forest – Forest have only lost one of their last 10 PL games, winning eight of them. Fulham only losing two of their last 12 PL matches, however, winning only four and drawing six. I think two pretty well matched teams and a draw most likely, which would do us as NUFC fans.
Man City v Newcastle – Here’s hoping for the three points that would guarantee NUFC top four after this weekend.
Southampton v Bournemouth – Bournemouth unbeaten in 11 PL games until losing at home to Liverpool last time. The Saints hadn’t won in their last 13pm matches and had lost 11 of them, until that shock 2-1 win at Ipswich despite going behind. A win for Southampton could see them ‘only’ seven points from safety. Difficult to see anything other than an away win but here’s hoping that that rare win last time out and at home in this kind of derby match, can inspire the Saints to get something.
West Ham v Brentford – Four points separate these two teams, 16th plays 11th. These six clubs are at least ten points clear of relegation but at least five points off tenth. Could be any result here but no real importance to either end of the table.
Palace v Everton – See above. Another two clubs in this no man’s land where the result won’t affect either end of the table. You have to fancy Palace here because they have been in better form but no surprise if this ends a draw.
Liverpool v Wolves – After seven points from the manager’s first three PL matches, Wolves then lost the next four. A morale boosting 2-0 derby win over Villa though last time. Liverpool clear at the top of course and haven’t lost any of their last 20 PL matches. A dramatic late draw for Everton in midweek and here’s hoping Wolves can surprise everybody with something similar.
Tottenham v Man U – Another two mediocre teams where the result of this has minimal importance. Man U have won only three of their last 11 PL matches and lost seven of them. Spurs have only won two of their last 11 PL games and lost eight of them. All the makings of a classic!
