Discussing Brighton's Premier League season so far ahead of their meeting with Southampton.
Despite a dull outcome last week, preparations at St. Mary's have begun to host another Premier League matchup. Although the Southampton fans aren't as enthusiastic as they were last week, there's some excitement still present for the Brighton game.
Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying that this fixture will be a walk in the park for Southampton. Instead, the scoreline could be massive if the Saints showed up with a Derby first-half performance here.
That's due to the fact that the visitors sit in the top half of the standings under their new manager. Honestly, their points tally somewhat downplays their current campaign considering they emerged victorious over the likes of Manchester United, Chelsea and Manchester City.
Thus, a good indication of their Premier League potential is their current form. Three wins and a couple of defeats in the previous five matches highlight that they shouldn't be taken as a weak opposition.
Talking about their squad, Brighton's strength lies in their attack. Yankuba Minteh and Joao Pedro are enjoying a prolific season up front with Kaoru Mitoma leading the athletic front three.
Southampton are also well aware of the above trio with the latter even finding the back of the net in the away trip. Hence, the Saints will have to rely on their fullbacks for defensive help in this regard.
At this stage, many Saints might be a bit relaxed knowing that we drew against them. Yes, that was a great achievement but the Seagulls still dominate the head-to-head figures considering the recent results.
