Villa were promoted back to the top flight as play-off winners in the 2018/19 campaign, before then staying up on the final day of the 2019/20 Premier League season by finishing in 17th place. From then on, the Villans have gone from strength to strength, and will now enter their seventh consecutive year at the highest level.

Last season:

Unai Emery’s side had final day drama once more last season, but it didn’t go their way in the battle for a Champions League spot. Despite that disappointment, it was another impressive campaign, finishing sixth on 66 points with a win-rate of 50% in the league. Memorable runs also came in the cup competitions, reaching the FA Cup semi-final and the Champions League quarter-final, losing to the eventual winners in both.

One to watch:

England international Ollie Watkins has been a standout player for Villa over the last few years and continued his fine form last season. The forward played in every single game, 31 starts and seven from the bench, scoring 16 goals as well as adding 10 assists.
