UEFA have confirmed that Chelsea now have the most expensive squad ever assembled in the history of football as pressure ramps.

The Blues beat Copenhagen 2-1 away from home in the first leg of their round of 16 clash in the Conference League last night, but it was not a good performance at all from Enzo Maresca’s side.

EXCLUSIVE! Calibre of Chelsea’s summer transfer targets rests on a few key elements – names and details inside!

There was some positives of course, especially with the two goals. A lovely finish by Reece James was followed up by some good work by youngster Tyrique George to assist Enzo Fernandez to score the second goal.

But unfortunately there were more negatives than positive, with one being Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall who was once again just terrible, there is no other way to describe it.

To be honest, it certainly did not look like we were witnessing the most expensive squad to ever be assembled in the game, far from it in fact, and that will be concerning.

The Chelsea owners will be expecting success very soon as tags like this will only ramp up the pressure on them and the team. How much more patience can they demand when they have spent that much money?

Sky Sports report that Chelsea’s squad at the end of the 2024 financial year was the costliest ever assembled, according to a new UEFA report.

The big-spending Blues’ squad was worth an astonishing €1.66bn (£1.39bn), eclipsing the previous highest recorded by Real Madrid in 2020 (£1.12bn).

It’s based on UEFA’s European Club Finance and Investment Landscape Report that was published on Thursday, and found four clubs had squads worth €1bn or more in 2024. That was Chelsea, Manchester City, Manchester United and Arsenal.

Chelsea’s owners will surely be hoping to see this come to fruition very soon. It needs to.
