A long campaign is about to reach its conclusion. On Friday 30 May, Zanchetta's Inter U20 take on Fiorentina in the Primavera 1 final at the Stadio Curva Fiesole at the Viola Park in Bagno a Ripoli.
The Nerazzurri go into the game against the Viola following an emotional and thrilling campaign, which saw Inter finish the league stage in second place on 74 points. This saw Zanchetta's side qualify directly for the semi-finals, in which they beat the holders Sassuolo. Inter fell behind but put in a mature performance to draw level. Calligaris' penalty save in the 28th minute kept the Nerazzurri's hopes alive and then captain Alexiou equalised in the second half. The game went to a penalty shoot-out and Inter were perfect from the spot: Calligaris was decisive again, as he saved Parlato's spot-kick, and then Zarate held his nerve to convert the winner.
FIRST ROUND Friday 23 May Fiorentina 4-1 Juventus
Saturday 24 May Sassuolo 3-0 AC Milan
SEMI-FINALS Monday 26 May Roma 1-2 Fiorentina
Tuesday 27 May INTER 1-1 Sassuolo (5-3 pens.)
FINAL Friday 30 May Fiorentina vs. INTER, 20:30 CEST
Daniele Galloppa's Fiorentina reached the Primavera 1 final after beating Juventus and Roma in the previous two rounds. The Violi finished the league phase in fourth position on 69 points, level with Sassuolo who finished third due to their superior head-to-head record. In the league phase, Fiorentina had the second-most potent attack after Roma (77 goals to the Giallorossi's 91). However, they conceded 50 goals, making them only the eighth-best defensive side in the league (for comparison, Inter scored 68 goals and conceded 41).
In the finals so far, Galloppa's boys recorded a sound 4-1 victory over Juventus in the first round, Baroncelli, Rubino (brace) and Balbo with the goals. It was a tougher game in their semi-final against Roma, who were the dominant side in the league phase. After falling behind, Fiorentina won it thanks to goals from Rubino and Harder, thereby knocking the Giallorossi out and securing their berth in the final.
In the league phase, Inter beat Fiorentina home and away. In November, the Nerazzurri recorded a 2-0 away win thanks to goals from Spinaccè and Re Cecconi, and then Mosconi and Topalovic handed us a 2-1 win at the KONAMI Youth Development Centre.
Fiorentina's leading goalscorer this season is 2006-born attacking midfielder Tommaso Rubino, who scored 17 goals in the league phase and has added another three in the finals so far. Rubino is also the player with the most minutes for Fiorentina this season: 2,898 minutes.
All of the games in the Finals will be played at the Stadio Curva Fiesoli in the Rocco B. Commisso Viola Park in Bagno a Ripoli (Florence).
The Primavera 1 final between Fiorentina and Inter at 20:30 on Friday 30 May will be shown live in Italy on Sportitalia.
