Fresh from announcing the deal to sign Bournemouth prodigy Dean Huijsen, Real Madrid appear determined to add more power to their defensive unit.
While Trent Alexander-Arnold is guaranteed to join the team very soon, Real Madrid are looking for one more defender, preferably a left-back.
To that end, Alvaro Carreras has emerged as an ideal target for Los Blancos as they look to find an immediate upgrade over Ferland Mendy and Fran Garcia.
According to Matteo Moretto, Real Madrid are very close to reaching a verbal agreement with Carreras over a summer move to Santiago Bernabeu.
Currently plying his trade for SL Benfica, Carreras has been one of the most consistent performers for the Eagles this season, impressing onlookers with his technical skill and ability to provide width going forward.

The defender, therefore, has emerged as the ideal target for Real Madrid, even more so considering the fact that he is a former graduate of the club’s youth academy.
A verbal agreement with Carreras could be a step in the right direction, as far as Real Madrid’s bid to sign the left-back is concerned.
However, the club would still need to find an agreement with SL Benfica if they are to expedite the move for the Spaniard.
This could prove to be the trickiest part considering Carreras has a contract with Benfica until 2029. The Eagles, therefore, have enough leverage to hold out for a fortune for the explosive fullback.
The report adds that Real Madrid are expected to intensify talks with Benfica in the near future, hoping to reach an agreement that will allow them to sign the Spaniard.
