The Alphonso Davies saga seems to be coming to an end, with a conclusion that will disappoint Real Madrid.

The Spanish capital club had counted on him for their planning for the upcoming season, but he is all set to commit his future to Bayern Munich, with his contract renewal set to be finalised.

It was a drama-filled last week in the saga as Davies seemed to be moving closer to the Madrid side, only to take a decisive step towards continuing his career at the Allianz Arena.

Real Madrid had been waiting, with a verbal agreement with Davies for nearly a year, and plans to meet with the Canadian’s representatives in the near future. Now they know that this scenario will not materialise.

Real Madrid still convinced about their strategy

It must be noted that Real Madrid also tried to sign Davies last summer when he entered the last year of his contract but were unwilling to meet Bayern’s demands and decided to wait for his deal to expire only to end up missing out on his services.

Despite this, as reported by Rodra P, Los Blancos remain convinced of their transfer policy – targeting players who are close to being free agents and avoiding overpaying.

The Davies situation is reminiscent of that of Leny Yoro from 2024. The youngster was another player who was seen as a key part of the future of Real Madrid’s defence but ultimately chose to join Manchester United, with a lucrative offer for himself and his ex-club Lille.

Real Madrid had hoped to wait until the end of Yoro’s contract with the French side (2025) or negotiate a much lower transfer fee. They took the risk, and it backfired. And, the same has now happened with Davies.

They were unwilling to meet the figures Bayern had set last summer (over €40 million) and did not want to enter a bidding war for the left-back’s signature. Now, he is signing a new deal with the Bavarians.

As per the report, though, at Valdebebas, they accept this risk, but not move from their strategy.

Real Madrid will continue rely on the club’s appeal and look to sign players who genuinely want to play for the club, even if it means turning down much higher offers, as seen with names like David Alaba, Antonio Rudiger, Aurelien Tchouameni, and Kylian Mbappe.

Soon, it is expected that Trent Alexander-Arnold will also join this list.
