Although the La Liga race has been done and dusted for some weeks now, yesterday’s match between Real Madrid and Real Sociedad will still be remembered by the fans of the two clubs for quite some time.

This was a night of goodbyes, as two Real Madrid legends, Luka Modric and Carlo Ancelotti, bid farewell to the Santiago Bernabeu. Similarly, Lucas Vazquez also probably played his last game at the Merengues’ home stadium. On the other hand, Imanol Alguacil is also going to leave La Reale, and it was his last match in charge of the Txuri-urdin team.

There is no doubt that Modric has been one of the most influential players for Real Madrid in recent history, and will go on to live as a legend of the club. Thus, it was quite hard for the club and its fans to say goodbye to him, and there were many teary eyes at the stadium last night as the Croat was congratulated by his teammates and gave a small speech.

Meanwhile, even as he stepped on the Bernabeu pitch for the last time wearing the white jersey, he still kept up his usual level of football, despite being 39 years of age.

As Sofascore statistics show, the midfielder remained on the pitch for 87 minutes, after which he received his farewell from the Santiago Bernabeu.

During this time, the Croatian superstar attempted 116 total passes, of which 107 were successful, thus recording a 92% accuracy rate. He also put in 2 key passes, completed 2 of his 7 attempted crosses, and had 5 accurate long balls of his attempted 8. Modric also made 1 interception, won 2 of his 6 duels, and 1 of his 2 attempted dribbles was successful.

A goal would have made such a special night even more memorable for the Croatian magician, but scoring goals has never been a strong point for him. Though he has had some wonderful goals on his highlight reels, his magic on the pitch has come in other ways, and his influence has been unmatched for both his club and international teams.

There is no doubt that Luka Modric will be missed a lot by the Real Madrid manager and the fans in the coming months and years. But as has been the case with several other club legends who left in recent years, hopefully, the Merengues will continue enjoying success on the pitch.
