A recent report from AS has offered a comprehensive update on the future of Joshua Kimmich and what it means for Spanish clubs such as Real Madrid.

It is no secret that the German international has been closely linked with a move to Spain for well over a year now, with Barcelona among the clubs interested in his services.

Real Madrid, too, have been credited with an interest in Kimmich for a while now, especially with his contract at Bayern Munich expiring at the end of the season.

However, the report suggests Real Madrid are not prioritising a move for Kimmich right now. They are focusing on other targets in the market.

The list of other targets includes the likes of Trent Alexander-Arnold, Florian Wirtz, Jonathan Tah and even Kimmich’s Bayern teammate Alphonso Davies, who has reportedly agreed a move to the Santiago Bernabeu.

Therefore, the idea of signing Kimmich on a free transfer is not something the club are thinking about right now.

Kimmich move not completely ruled out

That said, Real Madrid have not completely closed the door on a Kimmich transfer. The club acknowledge the fact that Toni Kroos’ retirement has impacted the efficiency of midfield.

Signing a viable midfielder, therefore, is something Real Madrid are open to. Kimmich, to that end, stands as one of the prime options, especially considering the fact that he might be available for free next summer.

Real Madrid, for their part, are not thinking about the transfer just now. But they could consider making a move for the German if the club fail to land other targets in the market.
