Inter Milan are eager to capture the services of highly sought-after Bayer Leverkusen defender Jonathan Tah next summer.

However, according to Spanish news outlet Sport, as reported by FCInterNews, the Italian giants face stiff competition from three European powerhouses for the Germany international.

Indeed, Barcelona, Bayern Munich, and, most recently, Real Madrid have joined the Nerazzurri in a fiercely contested transfer race for Tah’s signature.

Tah’s contract at the BayArena runs out at the end of the 2024/25 season, which makes him a uniquely exciting prospect.

He has been phenomenal for Bayer Leverkusen in the past decade.

After establishing himself as one of Germany’s best defenders, the 28-year-old earned the captain’s armband at the club.

That’s not to mention his defensive prowess was at the core of Leverkusen’s maiden Bundesliga triumph last term.

Therefore, head coach Xabi Alonso cannot reconcile with losing his talismanic center-half on a free transfer.

However, extension talks seem dead in the water.

With the clock working against Die Werkself, other European top clubs are rubbing their hands.

Inter President Beppe Marotta refuses to let this golden opportunity slip through their fingers.

Known for his shrewd transfer dealings, Marotta wants Jonathan Tah to reinforce Simone Inzaghi’s defensive options next summer.

But the competition is as stiff as it gets.

Inter are not the only elite club to have spotted this window of opportunity.

Barcelona, Bayern Munich, and Real Madrid are also in the mix.

All three clubs have significant defensive issues to address.

Eric Garcia isn’t at Barcelona’s level, while Inigo Martinez is well past his prime.

Elsewhere, Kim Min-jae and Dayot Upamecano haven’t convinced new Bayern boss Vincent Kompany.

As for Madrid, David Alaba was supposed to be a long-term solution at the back.

However, he’s spent more time in the treatment room than on football pitches since arriving in La Liga.
