AC Milan have identified Tony D’Amico as one of the key candidates for the sporting director role and with the Atalanta man, according to a report, Maurizio Sarri could become the head coach.
D’Amico has been heavily linked with the Rossoneri in the last couple of months, and especially since the Fabio Paratici talks fell through. Currently under contract with Atalanta, the negotiations wouldn’t be easy but Giorgio Furlani is keen on hiring the 45-year-old.
According to today’s edition of La Repubblica, via Il Garante, D’Amico is indeed the favourite for the sporting director job. In case he’s appointed by the Rossoneri, the chances of seeing Maurizio Sarri – currently a free agent – could increase significantly.
Sarri is a manager who knows how to work with youngsters and develop them into great players, which would fit well with D’Amico’s expertise (as we have seen at Atalanta). Milan have also been keeping tabs on him for quite some time, as we first revealed in January last year.
It remains to be seen if D’Amico will be the chosen one, with Rossoneri CEO Giorgio Furlani expected to continue talks in the coming weeks. Igli Tare remains an option as well, so there are alternative routes to consider here.
