The chances of Marcus Rashford signing for AC Milan this January may have increased this afternoon with the Manchester United star ‘open’ to a lower wage.
In this era of football, money seems to be the be-all and end-all of everything. From transfers to contracts to sponsorships. Milan are, as expected, no stranger to this, and there have been several suggestions that the club have prioritised profit over results.
These suggestions have often been supported by the mercato movements of the Rossoneri, with €20 million limits being common. Therefore, links to big earner Rashford, are watered down by fears about the Diavolo’s financial preferences.
However, it seems that the English winger is open to new opportunities, so he could take a financial hit to re-find his best.
According to this morning’s edition of La Repubblica (via Milan News), the star is ‘open’ to a wage cut which is described as ‘drastic’ by the paper. Earlier reports have suggested that a €3m offer could be tabled, which is significantly lower than what he would get in Manchester for the rest of the season.
However, his openness to a wage drop can only be seen as a good thing for many reasons. Primarily, it could suggest that the project offered by Milan has caught his interest enough to lower his wage. Alternatively, it could just say that he is more concerned about returning to his best than he is about a wage.
Either way, it is positive, and the wheels on a move could pick up the pace if the figures are aligned.
