Although there aren’t too many eyes on the Saudi Pro League, there is a strong Liverpool connection within it and one of the biggest stars is Roberto Firmino.

The Brazilian plays up front for Al-Ahli who currently sit in fifth position in the league with nearly half of the campaign played, coming up against Al-Ettifaq in their most recent match.

Our former No.9 traveled to face the team managed by Steven Gerrard and captained by Gini Wihnaldum, who also currently sit in 11th position and just five points the relegation zone.

During the match, the 33-year-old showed us all why he remains such a Kop hero as Saad Yaslam gave the ball to Bobby and he scored.

Taking the ball on the full volley and calmly passing it into the back of Marek Rodak’s net (the goalkeeper who is also currently coached by John Achterberg), it was reminiscent of so many moments of magic.

Bobby Firmino was the standout former Red in Saudi

Ironically, our former Dutch midfielder scored an injury time effort to make the scoreline 2-1 but his team were unable to get themselves a result on the day.

There are many with moral objections to the way that the nation within the Middle East operate and that should always be mentioned when this division is discussed.

However, on a purely nostalgic level, it’s great to see so many of our former heroes showcasing why we all love them so much after their time at Anfield.

Indeed their legacies still live on, with Harvey Elliott crediting Senor Firmino as one of the biggest inspirations for his career.

Our former No.5 has also worked under Arne Slot on his comments on our head coach before his Merseyside arrival are certainly ringing true today.

It’s always good to see former players enjoying the latter stages of their careers.
