Roma recently announced Niccolò Pisilli’s new contract, and the next in line to put pen to paper should be a more experienced player: Leandro Paredes, whom Claudio Ranieri indicated as a center-piece a couple of weeks after taking over the team from Ivan Juric.

According to Il Tempo, the Argentinian midfielder will postpone his return to Boca Juniors and stick around in the Italian capital. The parties have reached an agreement in principle to prolong his deal that would otherwise run out on June 30th.

Roma will confirm to have re-upped with Paredes in the near future. It could have happened through a clause based on his appearances or team objectives. The brass elected to handle it in a different way rather than waiting. The world champion was tracked by a pair of foreign sides in January.

The 30-year-old has logged 25 appearances so far even though he had been discarded in the early going. He has scored once and assisted twice. He headed back to Italy in August 2023 from PSG for €2.5M.

Our Take on Roma and Paredes

They have found a nice mix of youth and experience in the last couple of months, and their squad has room for improvement since they are breaking in a few newcomers. The process will likely continue in the summer, so it’s better to hold onto the certainties. He’s not superb but he’s still going strong. Plus, they can manage him better now that they have more depth and Bryan Cristante is back from injury.  Like any aging better, he fares better if he’s not run into the ground.
