Upon hearing of the Pope’s fandom for Giallorossi colors, Roma have immediately gone to work.
Both Roma and Lazio, the two clubs representative of the Italian capital, congratulated Prevost on his nomination as the new Pope.
According to Corriere della Sera, Roma are also planning to deliver a special jersey with the Pope’s name on it.
A resident of the capital for the past 12 years, Prevost has never hidden his football sympathies towards Roma, such as to even bring him to the stands of the Olimpico on 15 September 2019 on the occasion of a (victory) Roma-Sassuolo: Giallorossi victory 4-2, with goals from Cristante, Dzeko, Mkhitaryan and Kluivert, Paulo Fonseca on the bench.
Lazio – which can also boast a Pope among its eminent fans: Paul VI – is also moving to celebrate the Holy Father just elected by the Conclave: the Biancoceleste president Claudio Lotito, in fact, has already started working to take the entire team directly to St. Peter’s for an audience before Pope Leo XIV after the meetings already held in the Vatican with Pope Francis.
