Manchester United head coach Ruben Amorim still thinks Mason Mount can come good despite his recent injury setback, according to a report.

Mount is currently sidelined with a leg injury sustained in the Manchester derby.

He was named in the starting XI by Amorim but could only manage 14 minutes of action before he was forced off and replaced by Kobbie Mainoo.

A devastated Mount later took to social media to express his disappointment. A report covered by The Peoples Person relayed that the England international is set to be out for around 10 weeks due to a hyperextended leg, with the tendon also involved.

The midfielder is poised to make his return to action in March, barring any challenges with his recovery or rehabilitation.

Amorim has repeatedly stated his admiration for Mount and according to UtdDistrict, the Portuguese coach still sees the player as part of his plans.

“Sources have confirmed to UtdDistrict that Rúben Amorim still feels strongly about Mason Mount’s future despite his latest Manchester United injury.”

“UtdDistrict have been informed that despite Mount’s recent injury setback, Amorim continues to be a big fan of the 25-year-old and wants to keep him.”

“Mount has always done well in training, and in the opening month of the 39-year-old’s reign at the club, the English midfielder has been very receptive to his new ideas.”

Despite Amorim’s wishes, it remains unclear whether or not the hierarchy are keen on selling Mount.

The Chelsea academy graduate has been restricted to just 32 appearances for United since he signed for them. He has scored once and provided one assist in that period.

His lay-off adds to a growing list of player absentees.

Matthijs de Ligt, Victor Lindelof and Luke Shaw are also not available to Amorim for selection due to fitness issues.

However, there is a chance that De Ligt – who has missed the last two games with illness – will be back for tomorrow’s meeting with Wolves at Molineux Stadium.
