AC Milan president Paolo Scaroni has once again insisted that San Donato remains the priority for the club in their pursuit of a new stadium.

There was a meeting on Tuesday involving several key figures and reports emerged afterwards stating that it could lead the clubs to submit an expression of interest regarding the construction of a shared stadium again in the San Siro area.

This will include the purchase of the San Siro area, the development of the surrounding areas and the redevelopment of the existing stadium, meaning it would be an all-encompassing project with essentially total control handed over to the club.

As a result of this news, the Mayor of San Donato Francesco Squeri requested an urgent meeting with the Milan management and ownership in order to clarify what their intentions are in his region, after the purchase of the land to build there.

Scaroni spoke during an interview with La Gazzetta dello Sport (via MilanNews) that was published this morning and he provided some clarity on the stadium project.

“We have not overcome the problems of San Siro. First, the costs of the stadium and the surrounding area still need to be defined. Second: there is still a complex process for building permits. The path is still long and difficult,” he said.

“Of course we have reached an agreement on the second tier with the superintendency, blessed by Minister Giuli, which three months ago seemed impossible. A way to maintain the vestiges of the old stadium repurposed with shops and other activities.

“We have not abandoned San Donato, on the contrary it remains our number one opportunity. The priority for energy and money that we have spent. Mayor Squeri must not worry.”
