Bologna continued their impressive march towards the top four in Serie A with this victory over 10-man Como, with Lorenzo De Silvestri and Giovanni Fabbian goals.
The Rossoblu concluded their Champions League campaign on Wednesday with a 1-1 draw away to Sporting CP and could now focus on a very strong Serie A showing. Tommaso Pobega, Lewis Ferguson and Riccardo Orsolini were out of action. Como missed Alberto Moreno, Sergi Roberto, Daniele Baselli, Alessandro Gabrielloni, Marco Sala and Ignace van der Brempt, but Edoardo Goldaniga returned from suspension and new signings Alex Valle and Jonathan Ikone were brought in.
Jhon Lucumi shook off flu symptoms to start and almost opened the scoring too, his header thumping the crossbar from a Charalampos Lykogiannis corner kick.
It was only a warning, as a free kick was taken short for the Lykogiannis cross from the left, finding a glancing Lorenzo De Silvestri header from six yards. His celebration pointing to the stands was for his wife and their growing family.
It should’ve been 2-0, as a cross from the right saw Thijjs Dallinga’s volley strike the crossbar from close range, the second time Bologna rattled the woodwork.
During that move, Alieu Fadera felt he had been fouled and screamed insults at the referee, continuing to be so obvious in his protests that he received a red card, leaving Como down to 10 men.

There was another huge opportunity as Dallinga came sliding in a second too late to meet the Lykogiannis cross from six yards.
Como almost equalised after the restart, as Diao cut inside from the left and hit a right-foot daisy-cutter inches wide from the edge of the area.
Instead, Bologna doubled their lead when Juan Miranda’s cross from the left was turned in by a delicate cushioned volley off the inside of Giovanni Fabbian’s right boot from six yards.
Jonathan Ikone made his Como debut and immediately curled just wide from the edge of the box, while Butez got down to push a Sam Beukema header off the line from another corner.
Como rattled the frame of the goal too, as Nikola Moro accidentally deflected a Gabriel Strefezza curling cross-shot onto the bar, then Goldaniga was offside on the rebound.
There were emotional scenes as Bologna fans welcomed back Niccolò Cambiaghi and Oussama El Azzouzi from long injury lay-offs.
Como never gave up and in added time Lukasz Skorupski flew to palm the Nico Paz free kick out of the top corner.
