Serie A Femminile round up: Girelli stars for Juventus, Inter frustrate Roma | OneFootball

Juventus striker Cristiana Girelli scored a brace in a 2-0 win over Sampdoria to help her side maintain their 100 percent start to the Serie A Femminile season. Elsewhere, Roma had to settle for their third league draw of the season after conceding a late equaliser against Inter.

In addition to those two matches, we have rounded up the action from the weekend’s three other games.

Fiorentina 3-1 Como

Fiorentina came from behind to clinch all three points in Saturday’s home clash with Como. Elisa del Estal opened the scoreline in the 13th minute. The Spanish forward squeezed the ball past Cecilie Fiskerstrand, who failed in her desperate attempt to stop the ball from crossing the line. Emma Severini guided the ball home from Madelen Janogy’s cut-back to pull Fiorentina level.

Two minutes later, Agnese Bonfantini turned the ball in from close range to complete the swift turnaround. Emma Færge then added a third when her free-kick looped over Astrid Gilardi and in at the far post. After taking a two-goal lead into the break, Fiorentina successfully protected their advantage in the second period to clinch a third consecutive home win.

Inter 1-1 Roma

Reigning champions Roma are now six points behind leaders Juventus after they were denied a win in their away meeting with Inter. The visitors took a slender lead into the break courtesy of a Marija Milinković own goal. The Inter defender diverted the ball past her own goalkeeper in an attempt to deal with Manuela Giugliano’s near-post corner.

The visitors appeared to be on course to claim all three points until the referee pointed to the spot in the closing stages. Moeka Minami’s foul gave Ghoutia Karchouni the opportunity to dispatch an 88th minute penalty to salvage a point for the hosts. Inter finished the weekend in third place, while Roma are two points further back in fourth place.

Sampdoria 0-2 Juventus

Juventus continued their impressive start to the season with a successful away outing against Sampdoria. Cristiana Girelli headed in from Alisha Lehmann’s cross to establish a narrow half-time lead in their latest Serie A clash. Girelli then doubled Juve’s advantage within four minutes of the restart. The 33-year-old met Eva Schatzer’s near-post corner to steer the header past Roberta Aprile. The win leaves Juventus three points clear at the top, while Sampdoria are down in ninth position.

Lazio 3-2 Sassuolo

Sassuolo’s Samantha Fisher broke the deadlock in the 24th minute of Sunday’s away meeting with Lazio. Fisher embarked on a long driving run from inside her own half before moving into the box to slot past Sara Cetinja. Just 10 minutes later, Sassuolo were dealt a significant blow when Davina Philtjens was sent off for two bookable offences.

Lazio’s Noemi Visentin scored in the second straight game to restore parity just after the restart. However, 10-player Sassuolo showed great character to quickly retake the lead through Gina Chmielinski.

Unfortunately for the visitors, Lazio still had plenty of time to make full use of the numerical advantage. First, Eleonora Goldoni headed in from a corner to pull her side back on level terms. Martina Piemonte then netted an 86th-minute winner to snatch all three points and condemn Sassuolo to their fourth defeat of the season.

Napoli 0-1 AC Milan

Milan left it late to claim a precious victory in their away clash with Napoli. The contest looked set to finish in a goalless draw until Chanté Dompig netted a 92nd-minute winner. Milan worked a deep corner back across goal for Dompig to guide home from close range. While Milan celebrated back-to-back wins, Napoli were left to reflect upon a second straight defeat.
