Inter pulled off an all-important 1-0 win at Sparta Prague last night to take a massive step toward the Champions League last-16. Simone Inzaghi addressed the media after the game, hailing his side’s performance at the Epet Arena.
“We got here with great performances, we need one more point and our destiny is in our own hands,” he told Sky Sport Italia via FCInterNews. “This was by no means to be taken for granted. I am very satisfied with how we remained concentrated, especially during such a packed fixture list, and I congratulated the lads.
“I also thank the fans who made the journey to be with us this evening.”
Inter superstar Lautaro Martinez scored a match-winning goal in the 12th minute, registering his third consecutive scoring appearance in all competitions. Furthermore, Inzaghi’s charges kept a clean sheet for the sixth time in seven league-phase outings this season.
That’s an unrivaled record in the Champions League this term. As a result, Inter are now one step away from sealing automatic Round-of-16 qualification. Indeed, the reigning Scudetto holders need a single point from the upcoming home game against Monaco in the league-phase finale.
Inter could’ve killed the game sooner. However, after consulting with VAR, referee Alejandro Hernandez disallowed Denzel Dumfries’ second-half goal for an offside in the build-up play. That didn’t faze the Nerazzurri as they held onto their slender lead to bounce back from a heartbreaking 1-0 loss at Bayer Leverkusen last time out.
