Sky Germany reveal one club can only sign Chelsea loanee permanently under one condition | OneFootball

Borussia Dortmund manager Nico Kovac is a big fan of Carney Chukwuemeka, but the Bundesliga club can only sign him permanently under one condition according to reports.

Chukwuemeka joined Dortmund on loan in the January window, after it was made clear he was surplus to requirements at Chelsea.

The 21-year-old joined the Blues from Aston Villa in the summer of 2022 in a deal worth £20m, but his time to date at Stamford Bridge has been plagued by injury.

Dortmund can only sign Chukwuemeka permanently under one circumstance

When he has been on the pitch the midfielder has shown glimpses of the obvious talent he has, but those times have been few and far between.

Chukwuemeka started one game against Astana in the Conference League this season, and made just five appearances in total over the first half of the season, with none of those in the Premier League.

The loan move to Dortmund is a chance for Chukwuemeka to get his career back on track after a difficult time at Chelsea, and the Blues hope his form will persuade Dortmund or other suitors to activate his €40m release clause in the summer.

Chukwuemeka suffered a knee injury and isn’t at 100% fitness, which is why he’s only played 40 minutes across three appearances in the Bundesliga and Champions League.

However, Sky Germany have reported internally Dortmund are convinced by Chukwuemeka, with Kovac said to be a big fan.

The report adds that Dortmund will be only be able to sign Chukwuemeka on a permanent basis in the summer if they qualify for the Champions League or Europa League.

Dortmund have had a difficult season and currently sit tenth, although they are only five points off fifth, but they need to show the type of form they’ve not shown so far this campaign if they are going to move themselves up the table and be in the race for Chukwuemeka.
