AC Milan intend to make one final attempt to hire Tony D’Amico from Atalanta, and they want to poach Vincenzo Italiano from Bologna.

Milan’s 2024-25 season is drawing to a close, and that in itself is a relief for all involved. The Supercoppa Italiana triumph was a brief ray of sunshine in a campaign that included a potential eighth-place finish, elimination from the Champions League by Feyenoord and a Coppa Italia final defeat.

One of the things they will have to make a call on is the head coach, with Sergio Conceicao almost certain to depart the club after just six months. The man who got the better of the Portuguese at the Olimpico – Vincenzo Italiano – is being mentioned with more frequency. This morning’s edition of La Gazzetta dello Sport named him as the ‘strong candidate’ to potentially take over.

Manuele Baiocchini spoke live on Sky (via MilanNews) and he gave an update on Milan’s planning for the future, revealing the two main names for the sporting director and head coach position.

“On the subject of the sporting director, I believe that Milan wants to try to make one last attempt to convince Atalanta to release Tony D’Amico, who is the real objective of the Rossoneri. Otherwise, evaluations will be made, which is why CEO Furlani has not ruled out that the Milanese corporate structure will remain unchanged.

“As for the coach, one of the profiles that Milan has followed with the most interest during this season is that of Vincenzo Italiano. For two or three months they have been trying to understand if he could be the right coach for Milan.

“For now there has been no direct contact with him and his entourage, first Italiano wants to speak with Bologna, to whom he has given priority. If an agreement to move forward together is not found, then at that point new opportunities could arise and Milan could be one of these.

“However, at the moment everything is blocked by the sporting director issue, which is the fundamental step before choosing the replacement. of Conceiçao on the AC Milan bench.”
