Parma goalkeeper Zion Suzuki is highly admired internally at Manchester United and has been recognised as an option to provide Andre Onana with fierce competition, according to Sky Sports Switzerland.

The Red Devils’ head coach, Ruben Amorim, reportedly wants a new goalie to compete with the Cameroon international this year following several high-profile errors since he took over last November.

Onana had a fine start to the campaign with the Old Trafford club, keeping six clean sheets in the opening 13 Premier League games of 2024-25.

However, the 28-year-old has conceded in each of the last seven league games, including directly from a corner kick, and Man United want an upgrade on him during the transfer window this month or in the summer.

Suzuki has been on their radar for a while as they wanted the 22-year-old before he left Urawa Red Diamonds on loan for Belgian club Sint-Truiden last year.

The Japan international moved to Serie A club Parma last summer and has continued to impress Man United scouts.

He has kept just two clean sheets in 18 league games this term, and his club are only two points off the relegation zone, but his performances have caught the eyes of the bigwigs like Man United and could be on his way out of the Italian top-flight soon.

With Altay Bayindir unable to give Onana a run for his money so far, the Red Devils need someone better, and Suzuki fits the bill.

Errors from the former Inter Milan star against Nottingham Forest, Viktoria Plzen and Wolverhampton Wanderers last month would have left Amorim very worried, and the Cameroonian did not cover himself in glory after his hesitancy at corners was exploited by Arsenal, who scored both goals from corner kicks in their 2-0 victory over Man United.

The Red Devils could do with an upgrade in the position as they look to make necessary squad changes this month and in the summer, and signing Suzuki could come in handy.
