Sonia Bompastor highlights what Chelsea must do better despite FA Cup progression

Chelsea manager Sonia Bompastor has called on her side to be more clinical, despite their FA Cup quarter-final victory over Crystal Palace on Sunday.
The Frenchwoman is having an outstanding debut season in England as Chelsea lead the way at the top of the WSL standings, are in the League Cup final and now the latter stages of both the Champions League and FA Cup. While talk of a quadruple may be slightly premature, they are certainly one of the top teams in Europe again this term.
That being said, Sunday's meeting with Palace was not entirely straightforward. Despite brushing aside the newly-promoted Eagles 7-0 in the league at the beginning of the season, it took a late goal from Lauren James to break the deadlock at Kingsmeadow.
Chelsea were the dominant side in terms of possession, while they also had five attempts on target to Palace's one. However, Bompastor insists there is still huge room for improvement and her side need to make more of their opportunities.
"The main thing for us is we always find a way to win the game," Bompastor told chelseafc.com after the game. "It's never easy to win games, even if sometimes you are the best team and the other team are underdogs. I think you can see from the statistics of the game we created so many opportunities and chances and we could have been more clinical and efficient. We couldn't score more than one.
"One was enough, so it's good, but if you look at the statistics from the game we had 12 shots in the first half, but only one on target. I think it's not enough.
"At least the good point is that we created a lot, so I'm not concerned, and now we just need to be clinical in those moments. But it’s never easy to score goals."
Liverpool now await Chelsea in the semi-finals, which are set to take place next month. Until then, Bompastor's side have a tough month to navigate with huge WSL, League Cup and Champions League matches to come.
The Merseyside outfit will be a difficult test for Chelsea after their heroic 1-0 win over Arsenal on Sunday should serve as a warning as to what they are capable of under interim boss Amber Whiteley. However, Bompastor is delighted with the home draw and the fact they will have the support of their fans at Kingsmeadow.
She concluded: "You could see today it was a tough game against Palace, who are in the bottom half of the league, so these cup games always bring you a hard job.
"It will be a tough game against Liverpool, but at least we are at home. We don't have to travel and will have the support of our fans."
