James Tavernier has not been the flavour of the month for Rangers fans this season, and has found himself starting to (finally) fall down the Ibrox pecking order after a period of complete immunity, under almost all managers he’s actually had in Govan.

And Ibrox Noise sources have told us that there are definite moves between club and player for Tavernier to finally head off to pastures new, with some suggesting there may be a January exit finally in the offing, while others have posited that a mutual consent is also possible.

There remains a significant problem with this – as many supporters have long-pointed out, Tavernier is close to his testimonial year, and it’s been suggested that he would never leave before that.

Not only is it sentimental to try to see that out, but there’s a big wad of cash to earn from the match itself.

The dichotomy is there for all to see, that Tav wants to see his decade out, but also clearly has run his Rangers race completely.

The ideal solution, frankly, even for Ibrox Noise who aren’t huge fans of Tav to say the least, is to let him stay till the summer, have his testimonial, and let that be that – as long as he isn’t starting much in the actual team up till then.

It obviously, as it always did, boils down to him and what he wants to do – few fans are now in favour of his starting, or even being used as a sub any more, and his appearances are usually greeted with frustration.

Tavernier has long outstayed his welcome, and even the hapless Philippe Clement has finally started using other players more at RB. Kasanwirjo has impressed, so much so that Dujon Sterling got used again at midfield recently.

But Tavernier will decide what he does – and the less we see of the player in our shirt going forward, the better.
