Southampton have learned of interest from Celtic and Liverpool for Russell Martin's transfer target.

Southampton will be active in the January transfer window. Recently, it was claimed by David Ornstein that the Southampton owners see the squad as being weak, rather than Russell Martin causing the weakness. Therefore, they will support him in the way of transfers.

It must be said that Southampton need all the external help they can get at the moment. Now it's the November international break, the Saints are bottom of the table.

An uphill battle must now be faced to avoid relegation. It does work in Southampton's favour, though, that the bottom of the table is incredibly tight as it stands.

Last week, it was revealed that Southampton were interested in signing Lennon Miller from Motherwell. However, since the Saints first made their interest, several clubs have joined the race.

According to a new report from the Daily Mail, Southampton could face a transfer battle, as Celtic, Rangers and Liverpool are also interested in signing Lennon Miller.

Liverpool are firm believers in Scottish talent. After all, one of their best defenders in history is Andy Robertson who, while not signed from the Premiership, is a proud Scot.

Let it be known that Southampton would also like to dabble in the Scottish market themselves. The manager Russell Martin, while being born in Brighton, did represent Scotland at international level.

Furthermore, Southampton currently house another young Scot, with Rory MacLeod on loan from Dundee United currently. Therefore, Lennon Miller's transition to the South of England could be easier.

From Celtic's perspective, it is needless to say that their best interest is keeping ahold of the Premiership talent. After all, they are the biggest club in Scotland and they are tipped for even more success this year.

Standing in the Hoops' way is Rangers, or at least they are trying to. Rangers are third in the table, falling further behind the unbeaten Celtic and Aberdeen. Therefore, it is no surprise to see the Glasgow side interested in signing the young talent Lennon Miller.

Miller has captained Motherwell, showing that despite his youth, he has what it takes to carry a team. It also shows just how important he is to Motherwell.

According to the Daily Mail, Motherwell might only consider a record sale, if they are to part ways with Lennon Miller. That would come in the way of a £4m deal.
