Sporting CP are yet to receive any offers for Manchester United target Viktor Gyokeres.
The Red Devils are desperate to add firepower to their front line after scoring a meagre 44 goals in 38 Premier League matches.
They have been linked to numerous strikers and are said to be advancing on a deal for Ipswich Town’s Liam Delap.
Nonetheless, since Ruben Amorim left Sporting CP in November, the club has been regularly linked to Swedish striker Gyokeres.
These links have only intensified after his outstanding goalscoring feats this season where he bagged 54 goals in all competitions.
Nonetheless, Portuguese paper A Bola carry comments from Sporting’s Vice-President, Francisco Salgado Zenha, claiming that they are under no pressure to sell the Swede.
Gyokeres is expected to cost around £55 million and is said to have an agreement with the Portuguese champions that he can leave with their blessing this summer.
Zenha stated though that “being champions gives us a greater ability to retain players.”
He stressed that the club would do their best “to keep the talent we have because we want to continue being champions, to be competitive and fight on all fronts.”
When asked about the specific case of Gyokeres he retorted, “he has a three-year contract, there are no offers, the answer has been given.”
Whilst it is hard to imagine a scenario where he stays in Portugal, Ruben Amorim will be delighted that no club has made a move for his former striker yet.
There is some confusion in the media over United’s intentions as some reports have stated that they cannot sign Gyokeres due to a lack of European football.
Nonetheless, others claim that the Red Devils are still in the race for him and will compete with the likes of Arsenal and Chelsea for his signature.
