Ange Postecoglou says Dejan Kulusevski could play a part in Tottenham’s Europa League quarter-final second leg with Eintracht Frankfurt.
The Swedish midfielder missed the 1-1 first-leg draw with a foot injury as Pedro Porro’s equaliser following Hugo Ekitike’s early opener ensured Spurs travel to Germany level in the tie.
And Postecoglou had some positive news following the draw, revealing that Kulusevski along with team-mate Kevin Danso are set to return to training either this week or early next week, ahead of the second leg in Frankfurt on Thursday.
Postecoglou also said Kulusevski could well play a part in that game, though has already ruled him out of starting the match if he is to play.
Danso, meanwhile, is expected to take a bit longer in his recovery.
Spurs were frustrated by a combination of the woodwork and Frankfurt goalkeeper Kaua in their 1-1 draw.
Lucas Bergvall and Rodrigo Bentancur both hit the bar, while Kaua made several good saves throughout the game including to deny Heung-Min Son and Micky van de Ven with almost the last touch of the game.
But Postecoglou said he and his side can take a lot of encouragement from their performance.
“I can’t ask any more from the lads,” he said.
“I thought the performance in general was really, really good from the boys. Obviously we conceded early which was disappointing and it was a fair strike from the lad. We responded well.
“We hit the crossbar three times and on any other day we’re winning that game. There’s no reason we can’t go there and play like that in the second leg.
“The second leg is going to be tight for sure and it might even go to extra time. We’re going to need all the lads ready to go and the good thing is we’ve now got most of them back healthy which is important.”
Destiny Udogie was taken off in the second half but Postecoglou confirmed he was just suffering with a cramp. “He’ll be fine,” he said. “He was unbelievable today. It was incredible the amount of running he did.”
