Steven Gerrard is a serial failure in football management. No wonder he’s the leading contender for the vacant Ibrox job…

Steven Gerrard the one time Scouse messiah of Govan is said to be the favourite for the vacant Ibrox Manager position and it’s whipped up a frenzy among theRangers support inside and outside of the  Scottish mainstream media.

Gerrard, who led the latest Ibrox club to it’s one and only league title during that strange covid season when football was played behind closed doors, is something of a legend down Ibrox way despite the stats highlighting his many failures in management be that in Scotland or elsewhere.

In his three years at the club Stevie led the bears to one solitary honour despite spending a fortune on transfers and wages. There was also a point when the angry Bears were calling for his head after a home defeat to Hamilton Accies that effectively ended their chances of Celtic achieving a record breaking second nine in a row.

Fans turn on Steven Gerrard as Hamilton beat (the)Rangers at Ibrox

Watch the blogger video below of that night when Hamilton Accies won at Ibrox and Stevie G was far from popular below.  Only a global pandemic saved his job and also gave him the conditions to win a title, with Celtic failing to cope without the support the opposite was the case for theRangers and Steven Gerrard.

That title triumph won him a move to Aston Villa but he was soon cut loose by the Birmingham club after a sting of disappointing results despite once again being heavily backed in the transfer market.

Once Gerrard seemed destined to be a future Liverpool manager

He then decided to make a lucrative move to Saudi Arabia to revitalise his managerial career but was once more was let go due to poor results.  Once Gerrard seemed destined to be a future Liverpool manager but when that job eventually became vacant he wasn’t even mentioned in despatches such was his terrible managerial record.

This is the man who theRangers now see as the messiah once more despite constant failures throughout his managerial career. Even in that covid season – where Celtic had a terrible time and were out of contention – Gerrard failed to capitalise in both cup competitions, with Callum Davidson winning both the League Cup and Scottish Cup for St Johnstone.

If ever there was a golden chance for theRangers to win a first ever treble that was it

If ever there was a golden chance for theRangers to win a first ever treble that was it but Gerrard delivered one title. Yes, it stopped Celtic doing Ten in a Row but he couldn’t stop Celtic doing a second nine and since then normal service has been resumed and Celtic have already won four in row, including double and trebles along the way.

‘Get them telt Baby Rodge’. Image social media

Last week we featured Baby Rodge, have a listen below to what he had to say. It so pertinent to this piece and well it is guaranteed to make you laugh…

theRangers are desperate for success

theRangers are that desperate for success that they continually rewrite history. Steven Gerrard is not the messiah, he’s a serial managerial failure so the Ibrox job will suit him down to a tee.

When they had a quality manager, one that lead them rather remarkably to a Europa League final and only lost that on a penalty shoot-out they chased him because he spoke the truth about his team at Champions League level, where they ended up with he worst record ever in the old group stages. A record that will be theirs forever as the format has now changed.

Had they decided to bring Giovanni van Bronckhorst back then I reckon Celtic supporters would be much more concerned. One-in-nine Stevie G (and the one was a covid fluke) doesn’t worry us at all. Indeed we’ll welcome him back with open arms

What was that phrase that they once used?

‘We welcome the chase’…
