Nathan Lowe could well head back out on loan this summer and he would be a perfect target for Blackpool, Bolton Wanderers & Huddersfield Town.

Heading into the summer transfer window, all three of Blackpool, Bolton Wanderers and Huddersfield Town will be seeking to build squads that are capable of sustaining more of a promotion push next season.

All three teams have had spells of form this season which had marked them out among the best in the division, but a lack of consistency has led to underwhelming finishes.

Blackpool may be content with the way in which they have finished the campaign under Steve Bruce, but both Bolton and Huddersfield were tipped as automatic promotion contenders at the start of this season and were still in the mix for the play-offs as recently as a couple of months ago, but the pair are now set for a mid-table finish this year.

There has been a lack of consistency in their performances and results throughout the campaign, but all three teams share one thing in common and that is the fact that their forwards have not lived up to expectation.

With that in mind, one player that may well be high on the wish list of the three, as well as a few other clubs. Someone who they should be targeting is Stoke City striker Nathan Lowe.

Lowe’s sticky Stoke situation

19-year-old Harlow-born Lowe came through the academy at Stoke and made a couple of first-team appearances for the Potters at the back end of the 2022/23 season before then featuring 13 times in the Championship last season, scoring one goal.

In what has been a disjointed club for a while, which has had three permanent managers this season, Lowe was sent out on loan from the bet365 Stadium last summer and to League Two side Walsall.

Whilst with the Saddlers, Lowe became the top scorer in League Two with 15 goals in just 22 appearances under the management of Mat Sadler as the Staffordshire-based outfit were seemingly set to run away with the league title.

However, he was recalled by Stoke in January following the appointment of Mark Robins, and it has not been a move that has worked out for anyone, with Lowe scoring in his first game back for the club in a 1-1 draw with West Bromwich Albion at The Hawthorns but then not scoring and barely featuring again since.

Walsall have since endured an astonishing collapse with the Saddlers, who were running away with the League Two title, now heading into the final day of the campaign sitting outside of the top three and the automatic promotion spots in the fourth-tier due to just two victories in their last 20 matches, highlighting just the impact Lowe was having.

Robins and Stoke head into the final day of the Championship season not yet safe, but it would take an almost improbable set of results to see them down. Should they indeed stay up, Lowe’s future would have to be up in the air and if the England U19 international was to head out on loan again, then League One is his likely destination.

Blackpool, Bolton & Huddersfield looking for attacking consistency

Blackpool have seen some good form and performances of late from Ashley Fletcher, who grew up in Bolton and played for Wanderers’ academy before moving on to Manchester United.

The Seasiders will be hopeful of retaining Stoke striker Niall Ennis, too, albeit Football League World has exclusively revealed that Bolton and Wigan Athletic are set to rival Blackpool for his signature.

However, Fletcher has only just crept into double figures in his 32 appearances in the league so far this season and no one else has scored more than eight goals for Bruce’s Tangerines.

Bolton do actually have two players that have scored double figures this season in the league, with both Aaron Collins and John McAtee scoring semi-regularly for the Trotters but their maverick-style has left Bolton fans disenchanted with the pair and the amount of chances missed has been a major issue throughout the last couple of seasons.

Victor Adeboyejo is set to be the only out-and-out striker at the club, but the Nigerian is known for being injury-prone and is also hardly prolific, whilst Kion Etete departs from his very poor loan spell back to Cardiff City.

One man who was a regular scorer for the Whites was Dion Charles, but the Northern Ireland international was sold to Huddersfield in the January transfer window for a fee believed to be £750,000.

Despite being prolific at the Toughsheet Community Stadium, Charles has yet to register a solitary goal for the Terriers in his 17 appearances for the West Yorkshire outfit.

Alongside Charles in January, Huddersfield brought in former Lincoln City loanee Joe Taylor for a reported fee of £3 million from Luton Town, but the 22-year-old has scored just twice in 14 appearances himself and struggled with injuries.

All three clubs will believe they have players with the potential to be consistent threats in League One, but the lack of consistency from all of their attackers will have them seeking a new man up-front and Nathan Lowe may well prompt a battle for his signature if Stoke retain their Championship status.
