Super Leroy Sané set for all-time high with title-chasing Bayern Munich

In full flow for Bayern Munich as he enjoys his best-ever spell on the goalscoring front in the Bundesliga, Germany attacker Leroy Sané has his sights set on the perfect ending to 2024/25 with the Bavarian giants.

Never before has the 29-year-old - currently in his fifth season at the Allianz Arena - netted as many as the ten goals he's provided Bayern's top-flight title charge in a single Bundesliga campaign. His previous best was eight, and he has, in fact, only ever reached double figures in a single league season twice before in his career, netting 10 in 2017/18 and 2018/19 with Manchester City. The smile on Sané's face tells a tale of a player who is currently bursting with confidence.

Very much back in the Germany fold after undergoing groin surgery following UEFA Euro 2024, Sané's numbers at both international and club level have been impressive, particularly in the second half of the season following a build-up of momentum.

In the opening 15 matchdays of 2024/25, for example, Bayern's No.10 was only involved in four goals (three scored, one assist). Yet since the winter break, he has notched up as many as ten goal involvements (seven goals, three assists). In 2025, only Harry Kane has more goal involvements (11) and goals (9) in the Bundesliga than Sané, who is also the division's most dangerous midfielder this calendar year after RB Leipzig's Xavi.

“It’s been clear over the last few games that Leroy is in good form, which is why he’s started so often," Bayern coach Vincent Kompany said. "We’ve got great talent in the team, and [Leroy] is one of those players who’s helped us a lot and scored important goals. I’ve got no doubt that he’ll keep taking us forward,” the tactician added.

Kompany was once a teammate of Sané's at City, and although their roles for Bayern have since changed, respect between player and coach only appears to have grown further.

“I was delighted the first time I met [Kompany] again; he’s a great guy,” Sané explained, in quotes on Bayern's official website. “I’ve also now experienced how well he conducts training. The coaches all have great energy [and] Vincent Kompany has real charisma,” the three-time Bundesliga champion added.

With three games still to go, the one-time Schalke youth academy prodigy has a chance to reach uncharted territory in terms of his season's numbers.

What's more, the Essen native has clearly improved his finishing efficiency this Bundesliga season. He's found the back of the net with every sixth shot on goal he's had this term whereas in his previous four seasons, he always needed an average of at least nine attempts to score.

“He’s very hardworking and is getting the rewards with goals,” Bayern sporting director Christoph Freund enthused. “He’s very busy and works hard for the team. He's pleased me a lot," the club official continued.

His versatility has always been one of his prime assets: Sané can be deployed on either wing, as a central midfielder or central attacking midfielder. Now, the 69-time Germany international has increased his overall threat this season to the tune of a Bayern-career-best goal contribution every 106 minutes, as opposed to every 113 minutes last year.

An overall collection of 78 goal involvements in 150 Bundesliga matches for the men in red means that Sané has essentially been involved in a goal every other game for Bayern.

Fans of the Rekordmeister have been duly impressed, voting Sané their Player of the Month for March and picking one of the attacker's goals against Hoffenheim last January - a rocket into the corner in a 5-0 Bayern win at the Allianz Arena - as their favourite strike. Sané subsequently netted a second double against St. Pauli in March, which brought him to four braces in total during his time at the club.

With his star very much in the ascendency this season, the Bayern supremo has his sights now set on putting the seal on an ever-improving campaign with one more Meisterschale to add to his growing collection.
