Real Madrid head into match day 7 in the Champions League with an eagerness to turn the tide as they take on RB Salzburg.
Lucas Vazquez is the only notable absentee from the squad as the Spaniard is suspended for this fixture. It will be interesting to see who starts in his position since there is no natural backup.
Here is how Real Madrid can lineup against RB Salzburg.
GK: Thibaut Courtois
Has not been able to keep a cleansheet in 4 starts in the Champions League and has the best opportunity to do so as tonight’s opponents have just scored thrice in this competition so far.
The most obvious replacement although Raul Asencio could have been an option as well. The Uruguayan knows how to play in this position, having covered for Vazquez multiple times this season.
CB: Raul Asencio
Will be making his third appearance in the Champions League tonight. Has shown a lot of character and sometimes even better than his partner in defence. Another opportunity to show his class.
CB: Antonio Rüdiger
An integral part of this side and has shown it by being the club’s joint 2nd highest goal scorer in this competition with 2 goals. The year did not start out well for him but has gotten his head straight since the Barcelona defeat.
LB: Fran García
Has stepped up and might just be the starter for the rest of the season. Defensively has improved immensely and made some great overlapping runs. Will look to extend his purple patch.
CDM: Aurelien Tchouaméni
Returns to the side tonight after not playing a part in the last match. But put up a Man of the Match display against Celta Vigo and will hope to continue from where he left off.
Fresh off one of the best midfield performances by a player this season, the Spaniard has been a breath of fresh air for a side that had been overly reliant on Luka Modric until last season. His emergence has reduced the workload of players such as Jude Bellingham.
CM: Jude Bellingham
Not been involved on the attacking front in the last three fixtures but got close in the last match. Will hope to break the drought tonight and lead his side to victory again.
Although he has not done anything wrong on the left wing, with Vinicius’ return, this Brazilian will automatically shift to the right. 6 goals and 3 assists in the last 8 matches and has the opportunity to add to that tally tonight.
ST: Kylian Mbappe
His performance will play a huge part if Real Madrid are to win tonight. Has looked the most improved player since the start of the year. Made it clear in the pre match presser that he needs the pressure to do better because that is what Real Madrid demands – UCL nights always put a player under pressure and Mbappe will be eager to perform.
Has scored just 1 goal in 5 matches since the start of the year – way less for a player of his caliber. Scored a hattrick against Dortmund and if he is even half as good tonight against a poor Salzburg defence, it will do his confidence a world of good.
