‘Technically brilliant’ Utd star now ‘expected’ to leave this summer, one suitor is waiting in the wings

Manchester United are planning for the departures of at least four players this summer, with several others likely to follow them out the door.
Indeed, the Red Devils will bid farewell to senior quartet Christian Eriksen, Tom Heaton, Jonny Evans and Victor Lindelof, all of whom are out of contract at the end of June and have not been offered fresh terms by the club.
Of the group, only Eriksen and Lindelof are involved in Ruben Amorim’s squad at the moment; Evans has been sidelined with a muscle injury since December, and Heaton is rarely called upon in the first-team.
The Sweden international – hailed as ‘technically brilliant’ by counterpart Harry Maguire – recently returned to the fold following a lengthy layoff himself, featuring for just one minute in the win over Ipswich Town and 67 minutes off the bench during Sunday’s FA Cup defeat to Fulham. Lindelof, unfortunately, missed his spot-kick in the penalty shootout.

At the time his United tenure comes to an end, the centre-half will be only 30 years old, meaning he certainly has it in him to play a key role for a European outfit – though his fitness record does leave a lot to be desired nowadays.
It seems as though his former club have recognised his worth, too, as Benfica have emerged as candidates to snap up Lindelof upon the culmination of the term.
As per The Times, ‘it is expected’ he will pull the curtains on his United career after eight years, which has caught the attention of Benfica. Talks are yet to take place between the player and the Portuguese outfit, but he has been placed ‘high on their shortlist of targets’, with the defender ‘interested in a return to Estadio da Luz’.
