Marcus Rashford remains heavily linked with a move away ahead of Monday’s 11pm transfer deadline.

Last night, the Manchester United No.10 was left out of Ruben Amorim’s squad for a 12th successive match as the side claimed a 2-0 win over FCSB away from home, ensuring they finished the first phase of their Europa League campaign unbeaten.

According to The Telegraph, the Red Devils are locked in ‘tentative talks’ with Barcelona to try and gauge whether a deal would be feasible in the coming days. However, the side’s precarious financial situation has left them operating on a sell-to-buy basis, as there is simply not enough room on the wage bill to add another name.

Such concerns are only further proven in the fact Barcelona’s summer acquisitions, Dani Olmo and Pau Victor, were almost released as free agents in the turnover over the New Year due to them only being registered for the first half of the campaign. That, of course, took priority for the club in recent weeks.

Rashford, previously hailed as an ‘unstoppable’ talent by ex-manager Erik ten Hag, views the Blaugrana as his ‘preferred destination’, yet it’s his £325,000-a-week wages that are making negotiations more complicated.

It remains to be seen what Amorim will do with the 27-year-old if he stays put after Monday. His reasoning throughout Rashford’s exile has been that he simply isn’t conducting himself the way players should. Until things change, he will remain an outcast.

“In this moment, I think it’s really clear that we have to set some certain standards,” Amorim told reporters in his pre-FCSB press conference.

“We are waiting for Marcus if he wants it really, really bad. You try to make it something personal, but it’s not personal. I have nothing against Marcus. I have to make the same rules for everybody, and for me it’s so simple, it’s always the same.”
