Borussia Dortmund is enduring one of the league's worst seasons in recent memory. The side sits in the bottom half of the table and is out of the DFB Pokal. The only positive aspect of their campaign seems to be their performance in the Champions League.
Last week, BVB recorded an impressive 3-0 win in Lisbon. This victory was thought to be a turning point for Niko Kovač’s side. However, a few days later, the team once again failed to show up, losing 2-0 to relegation-threatened Bochum.
The inconsistent performances made Wednesday night’s game a crucial one. In a match that wasn’t particularly entertaining to watch, BVB managed to secure an important draw, which was enough to secure a ticket to the last 16. Here are three takeaways from Dortmund's statement win against Sporting:
