Marcus Thuram is stunned that there was not a penalty given for what he perceived to be a foul on him during the 1-1 draw between AC Milan and Inter last night.

Milan were forced to settle for a point in the Derby della Madonnina against Inter, conceding a late equaliser. Tijjani Reijnders had given the Rossoneri the lead at the end of the first half, then right at the end of the second the Nerazzurri levelled through Stefan De Vrij.

Inter though appear to be furious about a spot kick that they were not given in the second half. Both Theo Hernandez and Strahinja Pavlovic went in for a challenge with Thuram, though VAR adjudged the ball to have been won clearly. The replays showed Pavlovic may have caught his calf, but softly.

After the full-time whistle, Thuram spoke to DAZN (via MilanNews) to offer his thoughts on the game, echoing those of his head coach Simone Inzaghi who ranted about the lack of a penalty.

Was it just a goal that was missing?

“A pretty tough match against strong players at Milan, we hit the post a lot, goals that were offside, the incident of the penalty not awarded with Pavlovic: then we managed to score.

“We’re missing a penalty tonight, it can happen, I also miss goals: I don’t understand why there is VAR. Football is made of mistakes. We had a good reaction.”

What was the mood in the dressing room?

“I don’t know about the mood, I came here straight away. We know that in the first half we didn’t play Inter’s brand of football. In the second half we played better but when you play for Inter you can’t settle for a draw even if a goal in the last minute is better than a defeat. We’re not happy.”

The first half wasn’t like Inter…

“Against Monaco we finished the game in ten minutes. It’s true that all games are different. Today we reacted well.”
