Australian confirms latest on Heung-min Son before London derby clash kicks off Premier League return

Tottenham are set to have both Heung-min Son and Richarlison back from injury for this weekend’s London derby against West Ham.

Spurs captain Son has not played since being forced off with a hamstring problem during the latter stages of last month’s Europa League opener against Qarabag, missing the last three games against Manchester United, Ferencvaros and Brighton.

However, the South Korean forward was expected to return after the international break, having not gone away with his country for their latest 2026 World Cup qualifiers against Jordan and Iraq.

Son will indeed be back for Tottenham when they begin the Premier League’s return with a home showdown against rivals West Ham in Saturday’s lunchtime kick-off, while fellow attacker Richarlison is also in contention after training this week following a calf injury that has seen him sit out all but two of the club’s 10 matches across all competitions so far this term.

“Sonny and Richy have done some good work and trained with the group, which is a real positive for us,” manager Ange Postecoglou told Tottenham’s in-house media team on Thursday.

“Sonny was always hopefully going to get through this international break really well and be ready and Richy has done some good work, so hopefully both [will be] available for the weekend.”

Spurs will assess the remainder of their returning international contingent leading up to the visit of the Hammers, while Postecoglou is also hopeful that Lucas Bergvall will be fit after withdrawing from the Sweden squad earlier this week with what was described as a “minor injury”.

Wilson Odobert will not play against West Ham, but the French winger is expected back in full training next week after making strong progress in his recovery from a hamstring injury suffered in the Carabao Cup win over Coventry last month.

“The international guys, I think just about all of them got through okay - we’re still waiting on a couple to come back into the building,” Postecoglou added.

“Lucas was the only one who had a slight niggle but again we’re hoping that he will be okay. It’s only really Wilson, who has also done some good work the last couple of weeks and hopefully joins the main group at some point next week.”
