Tottenham have been crowned this season’s Europa League winners after beating Manchester United in an all-English final. Whilst it has been a Premier League campaign to forget for Spurs, their supporters will not care one bit thanks watching their heroes clinch silverware on the European stage.
Spurs have, arguably, saved their best performances of the season for the Europa League knockout phase and did so again in Bilbao. Brennan Johnson’s scrappy goal late in the first-half proved to be the difference as the north London outfit defended resolutely, a magnificent goalline clearance from Micky van de Ven played a big part, to end their 17-year wait for a major trophy.
A massive win for Tottenham who not only get their hands on European silverware, but qualification for next season's Champions League is the additional reward for Ange Postecoglou as he delivers his promise of winning a trophy in his second season. Pedro Porro 7
His delivery from open play and set pieces was always a threat in a game conscipuously lacking good technicians.
Cristian Romero 8
Outstanding in another final, sweeping up United’s attacks and setting the tone with his aggression. He was lucky, though, that Bruno Fernandes headed wide after he was drawn out of defence in the second half.
Micky van de Ven 9
Saved a certain goal when he leapt to clear Hojlund’s header from the goal-line. Composed and commanding at the back again.
