Tottenham travel to Hoffenheim on Thursday evening aiming to break into the Europa League’s top eight.
Outside the automatic qualification places on goal difference, a win in Germany will take the North Londoners into the top eight ahead of the final league phase fixtures.
Ange Postecoglou is desperately trying to salvage a season of struggle. Defeat at Everton at the weekend as Tottenham’s 12th of the season in the Premier League, as their injury-hit squad has endured a torrid period.
Europe looks the best route to Champions League qualification and elusive silverware. Delivering in this competition would ease the pressure on Postecoglou’s position.
Their opponents are also enduring a challenging campaign. After a seventh-placed finish in the Bundesliga last season, Hoffenheim are 15th this time around.
Pape Matar Sarr has joined Tottenham’s extensive list of absentees after sustaining a knock at Everton. The midfielder adds to a packed treatment room that already includes Micky van de Ven, Wilson Odobert, Yves Bissouma, Dominic Solanke, Brennan Johnson and Guglielmo Vicario.
Cristian Romero is back in training but has not travelled. Postecoglou’s options are further limited by the absence of Antonin Kinsky, Sergio Reguilon and Djed Spence due to ineligibility. Kinsky’s signing came after the registration deadline for the league phase, while Reguilon and the previously out-of-favour Spence were overlooked.
Tottenham predicted XI: Austin; Porro, Gray, Dragusin, Davies; Bergvall, Bentancur, Maddison; Kulusevski, Richarlison, Moore
