The Premier League team of the week (and manager) that have most impressed him.

Included in his dozen choices is one from Newcastle United.

This follows the massive 2-0 victory over Chelsea at St James’ Park

Troy Deeney explains why he has picked out this NUFC star for his Premier League team of the week, then the full eleven (twelve) are listed below:

Sandro Tonali (Newcastle):

“Tonali has been in this team three or four times already this season.

“He is an excellent, excellent footballer.

“There was talk about him being sold earlier on in the season.

“I can’t see how they can sell him, I really can’t.”

The media getting ever more ridiculous…

Sandro Tonali has been excellent ever since his 10 months suspension ended in August 2024.

Never once has anybody at Newcastle United given any substance to the idea that they want to sell Sandro Tonali, indeed it has been the exact opposite.

It is purely the media inventing claims that Tonali could leave, the Italian media in particular. These ludicrous claims then lazily and cynically repeated by media in the UK. The ‘exclusives’ couldn’t be more laughable if they tried, especially as even though Sandro Tonali has played so well and got actually better and better as the season progresses, these nonsense reports also claiming Serie A clubs could sign the midfielder for what Newcastle paid for him (£55m), or even less. Some reports even claiming Newcastle would let him go back to an Italian club on loan.

It is just beyond belief the level of this nonsense and then topped off by Troy Deeney twisting it 180 degrees and making out that it is Newcastle United who have pushed this media stuff of Sandro Tonali leaving.

Eddie Howe has called out the media rubbish a number of times, saying the club have zero intention of losing Sandro Tonali.

The fans love him and he is seen as second only to maybe Alexander Isak in terms of importance to this Newcastle team.
