Everton extended their unbeaten run to nine games in the Premier League after securing a 1-1 draw against West Ham United on Saturday at Goodison Park.

The Hammers nearly secured a win after Tomas Soucek put them ahead. But Everton have found their new never-say-die spirit under David Moyes and snatched a point in the stoppage time, with Jake O’Brien scoring yet again.

Everton were awarded a penalty just before half-time when Beto went down in the area, but the decision was overturned (rightly) after a VAR check.

Carlos Alcaraz nearly grabbed the winner at the death, but his effort went just wide of the goal.

Jordan Pickford and O’Brien were outstanding during the game. However, one player who caught the attention was Idrissa Gueye, and the Liverpool Echo gave him an 8/10 rating for his efforts.

It was his accurate and powerful cross from the right-hand side that O’Brien tucked in.

They wrote: “Classic Gana as he provided a shield in front of his back four that little got through, it’s a shame he wasn’t in close proximity when the ball fell to Soucek for his goal but his cross found O’Brien for the equaliser.”

Terrific performance from the Everton midfielder

The 35-year-old has made 28 appearances (26 starts) this season and grabbed three assists in the Premier League.

He has been a consistent performer for the side. Against West Ham, he managed 94% and created one big opportunity. Gueye made four tackles, two interceptions, one clearance, and won five duels to cap off a wonderful performance.

Gueye has a contract at the Merseyside club until the end of the season, and he is unlikely to be offered a new deal.

He has been an outstanding servant for the club in two spells, but Everton are more likely to look for young talents who can bring more energy and dynamism in midfield.
