Tommy Doyle is unlikely to make the move to Bramall Lane during this window, with his side keen to retain him.
Sheffield United won't be signing Wolverhampton Wanderers midfielder Tommy Doyle during this window.
According to journalist Alan Nixon, Wolves are keen to retain the player beyond the end of the deadline and want him to play a part in their quest for survival during the second half of this season, despite not being one of the first names on the team-sheet at Molineux.
The Blades are in a completely different situation at this stage, with the club in contention to secure a Premier League return at the first time of asking.
Competing at the top end of the table, they will be keen to continue putting points on the board, even after their heavy defeat against Hull City on Friday evening.
Their lack of midfield options potentially played a part in that defeat, with the inexperienced Sydie Peck and full-back Harrison Burrows both starting in the middle of the park against the Tigers.
Vini Souza may have returned for the Friday evening game, which was a boost, but Oli Arblaster is currently out of action with a severe injury and Gustavo Hamer has been sidelined by his suspension.
Tom Davies was also out for this game, though he could return to action sooner rather than later.
But even with Souza back in action and Davies potentially closing in on a return, the Blades seem to be keen to recruit a new central midfielder, with their former loanee Doyle appearing on their radar again.
Nixon has revealed that Wolves aren't keen to sell or loan out Doyle during this window - and want to keep him at Molineux for the remainder of the campaign.
In their quest to stay up, the Midlands side will be keen to have as much depth as possible, as it could make the difference at the end of the season.
This stance looks set to come at the expense of the Blades, with Chris Wilder keen to secure a deal for him now - that however won't be happening with other targets now set to be honed in on.
As exclusively reported earlier in the week, Football League World understands Leicester City midfielder Hamzy Choudhury is edging closer to a move to Bramall Lane.
He could be an excellent addition, considering the experience he has under his belt at both Premier League and Championship level.
It's fair to say that the Blades have been fairly unlucky with their midfield absentees - and with the other options they have when most of them are fully fit - they may only need to bring in one midfield addition.
Choudhury, who can also play at full-back, could be that man.
