The Liverpool will be out of contract in the summer as it stands
Virgil van Dijk suggested he has not yet signed a new Liverpool, despite recent reports.
The 33-year-old’s current deal expires at the end of the season and that has left him free to speak to clubs abroad about a pre-contract agreement.
Van Dijk has been coy this season when asked for an update on his future, unlike team-mate Mohamed Salah who has voiced his frustrated over the lack of progress with his own negotiations.
Reports on social media earlier this week claimed that Van Dijk had agreed a new deal at Liverpool, but the Dutchman dismissed that when asked after the Reds’ 4-0 Carabao Cup semi-final win over Tottenham.
“What the future brings I have no idea,” Van Dijk told Sky Sports.
“Anybody who says they know it - they are wrong.”
Van Dijk scored Liverpool’s fourth goal in a dominant second-leg win against Spurs, one that gave them a 4-1 aggregate win and secured a return to Wembley.
Liverpool have the chance to lift the Carabao Cup for the second successive season when they face Newcastle next month.
"We needed a complete performance,” Van Dijk said. “At half-time I think we could get a level up with intensity.
“But to win here like we did tonight is great for the team and the club. Now we focus on the FA Cup.
"If you bring intensity to the game, anybody can make mistakes - a beautiful win today.
"Nights like this where there’s a lot at stake, we didn’t take it for granted - we all wanted to go there [Wembley] again with the fans, and it was a great team performance.”
