Everton manager Brian Sørensen says that his side must do everything right if they are to get a result at Chelsea this weekend.

The Toffees return to Kingsmeadow on Sunday, seven days on from their 4-1 defeat to Chelsea in the Adobe Women’s FA Cup.

When speaking in the pre-match press conference, Everton boss Sørensen said that taking the lead against The Blues is important and that his side must have the perfect game against the Barclays Women’s Super League champions.

“We know we can hurt them in certain moments,” Sørensen said. “We actually had okay situations on our transitions [against Chelsea last weekend].

“You need to be leading against Chelsea going into the last half an hour. I wouldn’t say it’s impossible [if you’re not winning] but it takes something extraordinary to get back in it when they’re that good and the way they can put very good players on the pitch.

“The mentality is that we have to get everything right, we can’t make mistakes and if we can do that, we have a chance.”

Sørensen went on to say that he doesn’t know if back-to-back games against Chelsea is beneficial, however, he highlighted areas to improve from last weekend and again emphasised that his side can’t make mistakes.

He said “I don’t know if it helps. They’re at home and in good form but we have seen some things that we want to do better. We weren’t at our best on the ball, so we have to be better at that but defensively, we looked good.

“It’s going to be tough. Chelsea have an amazing squad and we need to get everything right; we can’t make mistakes like we did on the third goal. We just have to be at our very best to get something out of that game.”

Everton took the lead at Kingsmeadow last weekend before going down 4-1. Sørensen was disappointed to see a controversial penalty decision help Chelsea come back into the contest.

He said “Looking back, the performance was okay, we were just super-disappointed with the way that they came back into the game. If that penalty wasn’t awarded, I think we may have gone in at half-time at 1-0. We could have then made a plan and we are very good at seeing games out.

“When it’s 1-1, we get a bit more aggressive with our press and the game becomes a bit more open. We knew that we had to have a result in the first hour or so because of their bench; it’s very hard to get back into games against Chelsea.

“That [penalty] really disrupted our plan but until that moment, I don’t think they created any big chances. There were not many box entries and all of their shots were from far out. We looked really good in that aspect and we were creating the other way; a couple of transition moments and we know that we are always dangerous on set-pieces.

“I’m disappointed that the game got away from us in that way and we needed to get the margins on our side. They don’t need that help to win a game, they have the quality available.”

Everton’s Barclays Women’s Super League fixture at Chelsea kicks-off at 2pm on Sunday afternoon.
