Mikel Arteta admits Arsenal haven’t prioritised signing players in forward areas like other teams, with so much change needed elsewhere in the team.
Arsenal fans have voiced their concerns at the lack of a recognised goalscorer with the Gunners missing so many gilt-edged chances in recent weeks.
And, although Arteta has recognised the need for improvement in front of goal, the Arsenal boss has also made it clear that the club have been forced to target other areas of the pitch in recent transfer windows.
“What we couldn’t do, we couldn’t do. That’s it,” Arteta spoke ahead of Arsenal’s Champions League clash against Dinamo Zagreb.
“I look at a lot of positives and the things we have been able to do in the market because we’ve had so much to do in the last few years.
“We haven’t invested really in the things that other teams have done in the front players, but we put it in other areas that we believed were very necessary and we have to develop players to a really high standard as well.
“Every case is different and I’m very happy with what we have.”
Arteta also revealed that he is in constant contact with the owners regarding new signings.
“We are in constant contact obviously,” he added.
“They understand the situation and how the team is evolving. They’ve been super supportive and they continue to be.
“It’s about backing the club and themselves because we all want the best. The decisions we make are not to back anybody.
“If it’s something that makes sense and is going to improve the squad and give us the ability to perform to the level and to win the things that we want to do, if that’s the case and we have the resources to do it, we will try.”
